VISITORS’ EASY WIN By Telegraph—Press Association WANGANUI, January 26. The cricket match between the touring M.C.C. team and Wanganui was concluded at Cook’s Gardens on Saturday, the visitors’ winning by 195 runs. Wanganui opened its second Innings stubbornly, and with one wicket down for 33 runs it apy ared that there was a strong possibility of the team playing out time. However, the next five wickets were taken cheaply for 15 runs, and the innings closed at 5.32 with only 75 runs on the board. The wicket was In good order throughout the match and the outfield fast. When play commenced in the morning M.C.C. had 202 runs for two wickets (declared) and Wanganui had compiled 74 runs in its first innings f< ■ the loss if eight wickets. Sewell and Oliver continued Wanganui’s innings, the former having 33 to his credit before jeing stumped. The total for the Innings was 130. M.C.C. commenced its second innings at 12.16 pun. with a lead of 72 runs. Griffith and Powell, usually tail-enders, opening. The former’s wicket went for one tua after 15 minutes play. FRIENDLY MATCHES Playing at Fraser Park “The Timaru Herald’’ team beat Rovers by 22 runs. Rovers made 108 (Lewis retired 18, Gabites 13, J. Feely jnr. 10, Wilkes 19). Downes took one wicket for 11 runs, Allport three for 15, Griffiths one for 17, Dq,war two for 12 and Mangos one for 41 “The Herald” team replied with 130 (Gaffaney 41, Griffiths 16, Andrews 10). Lillico took five wickets for 35 runs, Gabites one for none, Wilkes two for 22 and Riley one for four. Colmoco defeated J. R. Bruce’s by eight runs. Batting first Colmoco made 138 runs (McKenzie 47, Cague 15, Jack 12, Reid 10). Aitcheson took five wickets for 18 runs, Dobier, two for 22, Tutty two for 24, and Luke one for 2. Bruce's replied with 130 (Cooke 34, Aitcheson 21, McCone 18, and Tutty 12). Jack took four for 23, McKenzie four 23, and Knowles two for 19.
