The All Blacks defeated Vancouver by 32 points to nil. Twelve thousand spectators observed a minute’s silence led by the Mayor (Mr McGeer) at the opening of the match. Griffiths Injured an ankle and an X-ray examination has been ordered. NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY TEAM VICTORY IN FIRST MATCH OF TOUR United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 26, 11.50 p.m.) TOKIO, January 26. The New Zealand University Rugby football team, playing its first match in Japan, at Koshlen defeated West Japan by 31 points to 3. The New Zealand team was as follows: Full-back: Bush. Threequarters: Watt, Lewis, Grant. Five-eighths: Fookes, Gillies. Half-back: Rae. Forwards: Thomas, Laney, Wilson, Hudson, Eade, Chesterman, McVeagh, Stace. In the first spell the Kansal forwards dominated the game and the half-time score was 8 points to 3. Definite superiority was gained only in the last quarter of an hour when the New Zealand backs showed initiative and superior pace despite facing a strong wind. About 20,000 spectators were present. At the conclusion of the game the local governor presented a magnificent loving cup to the team. The team is being most handsomely entertained and the time is being utilised very profitably in seeing characteristic features of Japanese life.
