GANGSTER METHODS
APPEARANCE REPORTED IN ENGLAND United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 26, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 25. The discovery of a bullet-riddled body of a scar-faced elderly bookmaker under a hedge outside Saint Ulbans, and the subsequent investigations indicate that traditional Chicago gangster methods have at last been adopted in England, possibly as the outcome of a race gang feud. The customary baffling features are presented. A village carpenter discovered the corpse early in the morning of January 24, noting that though it had rained all night the clothing, including a buttoned-up overcoat, was completely dry. The police believe the victim was "taken for a ride” from a West End night club, and “put on the spot” in a motor car, and dumped on the roadside. No revolver was found. It is believed the victim was accompanied by a man and woman. They called at a roadside cafe in the village of Londoncolney at midnight on January 23.
