CATTLE STAMPEDE
BOMBARDMENT OF HAIL As a result of a recent cloudburst in the north-west part of the district two inches of rain fell in less than an hour at Roseberry, 13 miles north of Kyogle, New South . Wales. The water came down In sheets, and caused a big run in the river. Cultivation paddocks were badly washed, and young crops were damaged. At Upper Eden Creek big jagged hailstones accompanied the downpour. Dairy cattle struck by the hailstones were driven frantic, and raced madly about in an endeavour to escape. One dairy farmer lost three valuable springing cows, which raced down steep hills into gorges, and broke their necks. Poultry and pigs quickly took shelter. Young maize and potato crops were cut off level with the surface, and paddocks of white clover were mowed down. The storm was confined to a narrow strip of country.
