ORARI BRIDGE

FANCY DRESS BALL In the Orari Bridge Hall a fancy dress ball, arranged by members of the school committee and the local branch of the W.D.F.U., was held to augment the funds of both bodies. The first part of the evening was devoted to the children, dancing being the main feature of the programme. Some very pretty and original frocks were worn. Prizes were not awarded for the children’s costumes, but during the supper interval each child received a balloon and a bag of sweets and fruit. The balloons were the gift of Mr R. A. Bruce. Mesdames P. Scott and Quigley were the musicians for the children’s part of the programme. During the grand march which was led off by Mr W. Ford, chairman of the school committee and Mrs F. E. South, president of the Orari Bridge W.D. the adult’s fancy costumes were judged by Mrs R. Brown and Miss Vance, Woodbury. The prizes were awarded as follows: Misses Joyce Ford and I. Woods (Two Little Girls in Blue), Miss M. Pratt (Chinese Princess), Miss Ruby Tait (Gipsy), Mrs P. Scott (Japanese Lady). During the evening songs sung by Miss R. Tait, Rangitata, were much appreciated. The result of the competition for a dinner was also announced. Miss Eileen Patrick, Geraldine, proving the winner. Excellent music was supplied by an orchestra, extras being played by Mrs P. Scott. Mr W. Ford acted as master of ceremonies.

Robin Bruce (Mr Tube the Artist), Colin Coulter (Pierotte), Ron and Audrey Lee (Dutch boy and girl), Don Coulter, Colleen Coulter, Vera Quigley and Marie Hamber (Orari Bridge Quadruplets with Grace Coulter as Karitane Nurse), Betsey Bruce (Mad Hatter). Ngaire Scott (Queen of Hearts), Juliet Scott (Crinoline Lady), Helen Bruce (Serbian), Daphne Waller (Japanese girl), Phoebe Lovell (Eastern Lady), Jean and Donald Edgar (Mary and her little lamb). Brian and Norah Markham (Pierrottes), Diana Lewis (Fairy), Doreen Markham (Things of the Past), Margaret Scott (Ballet Dancer), Mary Scott (Night). Among those present were: Mr and Mrs W. Ford.
