SOCIAL NOTES

Mr and Mrs J. E. Thomas, Dunedin, are staying at the Dominion. Mr and Mrs V. Jacobs, Dunedin, are guests at the Grosvenor.

Mrs Gavin Menzies, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs R. S. Home, Sarah Street.

Mrs J. C. Templer and her children, Waimate, will leave to-day to spend the holidays in Christchurch. Miss Brigit Gresson, Christchurch, arrived yesterday on a visit to Mrs C. H. Gresson, Selwyn Street. Miss O’Brien, Orbell Street, returned on Saturday from a visit to Invercargill. Miss Dorothy Mac Lean, Girls’ High School, has left to spend the holidays in Wanganui. Mrs Chilton Hay ter, Orbell Street, will leave to-morrow to spend the holidays at “Rollesby,” Burke’s Pass.

Mrs Hunter-Weston, “Mt. John,” Tekapo, who was a guest at the Grosvenor, returned home on Saturday. Miss Halmai Loughnan, Christchurch, who is staying with Mrs E. G. Kerr, “Ardgour,” Sealy Street, will return home to-day. Mrs P. A. Elworthy, Gordon’s Valley, will leave to-day on a visit to her father, Archbishop Julius, Cashmere Hills, Christchurch.

Recent callers at the High Commissioner’s Office, London, included Captain R. M. Burdon, Woodbury, Canon and Mrs R. H. Hobday, Ellerslie, Captain and Mrs N. A. Rattray, Waimate, and Mrs C. D. Stocker, Timaru.

The engagement is announced of Viscount Cranley, only son of the Earl and Countess of Onslow, and the Hon. Pamela Dillon, only daughter of Viscount and Viscountess Dillon. Lord Cranley, who is 22 this year, is a Lieutenant in the Life Guards. His aunts are the Countess of Iveagh and Viscountess Halifax.

News was received from London by a recent mail that Mrs W. H. Walton and Miss Dorothy Walton, Timaru, after leaving the Ormonde, spent a month on the Continent, seeing Italy, Switzerland and Holland on their way t 6 London. While at The Hague they had the good fortune to see the famous flower show which takes place only once in 10 years. Mrs and Miss Walton decided to cross to England to make their reservations for the various functions of the season, and having done this they left for an Easter tour in Germany, the Rhineland, and the Austrian Tyrol, accompanied by Miss Elsie M. Sutton, Oamaru. They will spend about six months in England.
