CANZONERI REGAINS LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 12, 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 11. Tony Canzoneri staged a sensational upset at Madison Square Garden tonight by regaining the lightweight championship through a clean cut victory over Lou Ambers in a fifteen rounds bout. The referee and two judges were unanimous that Canzoneri won on points. Canzoneri weighed 9st 71b and Ambers 9st. 721 b. Canzoneri lost the championship in 1933 and the champion Barney Ross recently relinquished his crown as he became over-weight. Sporting opinion favoured Ambers owing to his youth and hitting ability, but Canzoneri outboxed him throughout. He was on the verge of scoring a knock-out in the third round, when he thrice had Ambers on the floor.
