NAVAL CONTROLS

APPOINTMENT TO AFRICAN STATION British Official Wireless (Received May 2, 6.5 p.m.) RUGBY, May 1. The King has approved the appointment of Rear-Admiral Tottenham to Commander-in-Chief of the Africa station, in succession to Vice-Admiral Sir R. G. R. Evans, famous as “Evans of the Broke,” and as a member of Scott’s Antarctic Expedition, which he commanded after Scott’s death in 1917. He was in command of the destroyer Broke, which, with the Swift, met and defeated six German destroyers.
