THE LADIES’ BOWLING CLUB SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL The first official end-of-season presentation of trophies organised by the Temuka Ladies’ Bowling Club was combined with a euchre party and dance and held in the Druids Hall on Wednesday evening. Cards were played in the early part of the evening, the winners being Miss M. Hancox and Mr T. Edwards, while the consolation winners were Mrs F. Hall, a visitor to Temuka, and Mr R. H. Taylor. Before the season’s trophies were presented by the Mayoress (Mrs A. W. Buzan), the president (Mrs J B. Davis) said she was pleased to see so many members and their friends present. All would agree that it had been a happy season and that the trophies about to be presented had been well earned. The winners of trophies were: A Grade Singles (Mrs H. B. Strange’s rose bowl and miniature presented by Mrs Davis), Mrs G. Fletcher, runnerup (Mrs G. Hancox’s trophy), Mrs W. L. Harrison; B Grade Singles (Mrs Bremner Memorial Cup and miniature presented by Mrs W. L. Harrison), Mrs E. Blackmore. runner-up (trophy presented by Mrs Blackmore), Mrs L. Bussell; champion pairs (club trophies), Mesdames Fletcher and Blackmore. After supper the evening was spent in dancing, music being provided by Mr S. Cross. Mr J. Farrell was M.C. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss T. Goodman and Mr M. Parke. ATHLETIC CLUB At a meeting of the committee of the Temuka Amateur Athletic Club, Mr J. M. Ritchie presided. The secretary (Mr W. S. Harbrow) reported that the financial position of the club was satisfactory. It was decided to hold an end-of-season dance in the Drill Hall, at which the trophies won would be presented. The chairman and Messrs C. R. Cooper, J. Denison, G. Washington and the secretary were appointed a committee to make all arrangements. The chairman and secretary reported having attended a meeting of delegates at Timaru, at which a subcentre was formed. ELECTORS’ ROLL The supplementary district electors’ roll has now been compiled and published by the town clerk (Mr L. Butters). It contains 187 names, which, added to those on the main roll, makes a total voting power of 1363. CLANDEBOYE The spinsters and bachelors of Clandeboye at a recent meeting decided to hold a joint dance early in June. Mr L. Livesey presided. Miss Mackie and Mr B. Pemberton were appointed joint secretaries, and the following committee was appointed:— Misses Goodson, N. Liddle, M. Boocock and N. Hickey, and Messrs T. Young, G. Dix, J. Symes and R. Armstrong. The annual meeting of the Clandeboye branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was presided over by Miss E. Livesey. Before business commenced the president referred to Mrs Lang roll's illness and expressed a hope for a speedy recovery. The annual report and bal-ance-sheet, showing a successful year’s working and a satisfactory credit balance, were adopted, after which a vote of thanks, proposed by Mrs G. A. N. Bolderston, was passed to the president for her work and interest. The election of officers resulted;—President, Miss M. E. Livesey; vice-president, Mrs H. T. Dunn; treasurer, Miss A. Somerville; secretary, Mrs G. H. Mulligan; librarian, Miss M. H. Clayton; advisory members for housekeeper scheme, Mesdames Dobson and Henderson; committee, Mesdames Adair, Bolderston, Drake and Livesey and Miss Goodson. For the most points’in cookery gained in the year at the monthly competitions, a prize was presented to Mrs Adair, while the first prize for miscellaneous exhibits was won by Miss Goodson and the second by Mesdames Drake and Dunn, who were equal first. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs and Miss Livesey. BASKETBALL Several friendly basketball matches were played 'yesterday afternoon between teams affiliated with the Temuka and District Sub-Association. At Clandeboye, the home club’s first grade team defeated High School Old Girls by 5 goals to 2, and at Geraldine the second grade teams of the Geraldine and High School Old Girls' Clubs met, the home side winning by 6 goals to 3. St. Joseph’s Old Girls travelled to Pleasant Point, their first grade team losing to the home side by 6 goals to 4, while the third grade side won its game. GENERAL NEWS Repairs are at present being effected to the asphalt at the Temuka High School. Around the primary school building the work has been carried out by the Education Board, but the School Committee has arranged for the work that is being done around the secondary school. In preparation for the King's Jubilee

celebrations on Monday, pupils of the Temuka District High School are being instructed in the drill and folk dancing display that they are to give in the afternoon.

Mr E. Cholerton, Optical Specialist, proprietor of Procter’s, the Premier Opticians, Christchurch, will be visiting Temuka, personally, and may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Crown Hotel, on Saturday, 18th May. Appointments can now be made by ringing the U.F.S. Dispensary
