POWER CONTROL
COUNCIL ADHERES TO - DECISION The report of the Omnibus and Electricity committee of the Timaru Borough Council, which was presented to a meeting of the Council last night, stated that a letter had been received from 'the secretary of the South Canterbury Power Board in regard to the suggested amalgamation with the Board. The committee recommended that the Council reply that it was not prepared to alter its previous decision. The letter in question was published after the last meeting of the Power Board. Cr. P. C. Vinnell said that it was a pity that communications which were sent to the Council were not more promptly placed before the Council. The copy of the letter in question had appeared in the newspapers before the last meeting of the Council. The Town Clerk (Mr E. A. Killick) said that the letter was placed before the first meeting of the Electricity Committee after it was received. Cr. Vinnell. That is not the point. The letter was addressed to the Council. Will the chairman of the Electricity Committee tell me if the Power Board met before the last meeting of the Council? Cr. J. R. Hart said that the Power Board meeting was held the day after the last Council meeting. The Council met on the Monday, and the Board on the Tuesday. Cr. H. J. Mathers said that the letter was sent on the Monday, but it arrived too late for the Council meeting. The Town Clerk said that he received the letter on the Monday afternoon. The committee’s recommendation was adopted.
