MURDER CHARGE
ACCUSED REMANDED By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER, March 21. Charles William Price, alias Edwards, indicted on a charge of murdering Evelyn Mary Madden, of Argyll East. Waipawa, early in February, appeared before Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., at the Napier Police Court this morning, and was further remanded until April 11. Appearing for the police DectectiveSergeant J. Bickerdike stated that investigations into the case had not been completed. It was certain, however, that the police case would be readv by April 11, to which date he asked that the accused should be remanded. Mr Averill, counsel for Price, agreed to the request, and the remand was granted. A crowd of about 100, mostly men, gathered outside the Napier Courthouse, and waited for the appearance of the escort from the direction of the Police Station. The accused, however, was taken to the Courthouse early and entered by a side door. He was also escorted away from the Courthouse through the back entrance. As a result the great majority of the public was still waiting for his appearance when the case had been dealt with, and the accused was half way back to the Police Station.
