After being" pursued by police at Broken Hill for more than five miles, Bertram O'Sullivan shot himself dead. It is alleged that the boy took money from his father’s home, and bought a rifle. The father chased him for some distance, but desisted when the son turned and fired at him. Two policemen, after pursuing the boy across country, fired a shot in the air to frighten him. It is alleged that the boy took refuge behind bushes and fired at the police. A constable circled round behind O’Sullivan, who thereupon shot himself through the temple.
