SOUTH END

MEETING OF RATEPAYERS AND HOUSEHOLDERS A meeting of the Executive of the South End Ratepayers’ and Householders’ Association was held on Wednesday In the South School. Mr J. A. Hay was in the chair. Letters were received from the North End Association expressing appreciation of the foundation of the Association.

The Borough Council wrote dealing with the several suggestions forwarded to it for consideration. The South Canterbury Electric Power Board wrote in the matter of the lighting of the Redruth area. After discussion it was agreed that a deputation wait on the Electric Light Committee with reference to the lighting suggestions, and that it would await the reports on the Southern Outfall and also on the Dumps. Appreciation was expressed in the Councils’ interest in the Marine Road.

A general discussion then took place on contrloled tipping, beautifying of gullies and planting of trees. Regret was expressed at the action of the M.E.D. in not discussing the proposals of the Power Board.

Payment of rates six monthly instead of annually was discussed and also discrepancies in Borough valuations, fencing the water supply, and electrical charges.

It was agreed that the next meeting should be the General Meeting of the Association called before the forthcoming Borough Elections, and that it be a recommendation from the Committee that a canvasser be appointed, a commission.
