WINCHESTER
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Waihi Football Club was held on Wednesday evening, when there was a fair attenOwing to the absence of the president (Mr J. C. South), Mr C. A. Opie was voted to the chair. The secretary presented the annual report and balance-sheet. The report stated that the past season was not so successful as the previous year, only one team being entered in the competition and it did not meet with as much success as was anticipated, although at times the standard of play was very good. Representative honours were gained by C. Higinbottom, R. Jamieson, L. Wood and W. South. The expenses exceeded the receipts by £2B/19/-. The annual ball was a social success, but not a financial one. Very rough weather kept the attendance down. The club thanked all who helped during the season, the newspapers for assistance given; the St. John Ambulance Association for attending the matches; the gatekeepers; the vice-presidents for their financial assistance; Mr W. Bradshaw (auditor); the car owners who conveyed the players' to the matches, and the ladies for their assistance at the annual ball. In conclusion, the club asked players to give as much help as possible to make the coming season more successful than the past. On the motion of Messrs T. H. Langford and F. E. South, the annual report and balance-sheet were adopted.
Election of Officers The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr H. E. Smith; president, Mr J. C. South; vice-presidents: Messrs A. Maxwell, G. Austin, J. J. Guerin, E. O. Shaw, C. A. Opie. T. H. Baker, J. L. Stone-Wigg, J. Woodham, F. E. South, F. South, T. Harrison, H. P. Dunne, C. L. Austin. J. Chisholm, J. A. Anderson, J. C. Bisdec, J. J. Earl, R. Maddren, H. J. Hopkins, T. Lysaght, W. J. Quirke, T. Lewis. J. H. Parker; hon. secretary. Mr O. S. Priest; treasurer, Mr T. H. Langford; auditor, Mr W Bradshaw; delegates to the South Canterbury Rugby Union, president and secretary; selector and coach, Mr W. J. Quirke; committee: Messrs C. Higinbottom, R. Jamieson, A. P. Quirke, R. Earl, G. South, A. McDonald, T. Henderson, J. Hewson, W. Keen. Mr R. Cullen was elected a member of the club. It was decided to arrange a friendly game with the Celtic Club. Opening day was fixed for Wednesday, April 3. It was decided on the motion of Messrs Opie and F. E. South that the delegates be given a free hand in voting for Mr J. Pennycook’s notice of motion at the annual meeting of the Rugby Union. It was decided to support Mr S. H. Sullivan’s notice of motion, giving the vice-presidents a vote on the Management Committee. A vote of thanks wals accorded to the outgoing committee for their work during the year. SUCCESSFUL DANCE On Tuesday evening, a dance held under the auspices of the Winchester Tennis and Croquet Club was very largely attended. The music was supplied by a Temuka orchestra and extras were played by Miss J. Davey. Mr W. J. Jackson was master of ceremonies.
