NEW LAND
WHALER’S DISCOVERY IN ANTARCTIC United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright OSLO, March 12. A Norwegian oil tanker, Thorshavn, belonging to the Lars Christensen Whaling Company discovered new land in the Antarctic, situated between 80.45 east, 67.50 south and 73.00 east, 69.10 south in Enderby Land quadrant. The territory which is regarded as the missing link between King Leopold Land and Queen Astrid Land and Lars Christensen’s Land, is partly ice-clad without vegetation.
The captain took possession on behalf of Norway, naming it Ingrid Christensen’s Land, after the wife of the head of the whaling company. The Antarctic expert, Aagaard, announcing the discovery, urges that Norway should immediately claim equality in Antarctic, annexing all lands between the eastern limit of Queen Maud’s Land and the western limit of Crown Princess Martha’s Land. He believes Britain is sympathetic to the proposals.
