SERVICE PRAISED
NEW ZEALAND TOURIST BUREAU IN LONDON By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER, March 12. In the light of her experiences with the Government Tourist Department in London and New Zealand, Constance, Duchess of Westminster, considers that there is not another travel bureau in the world to rival it in completeness of organisation or one which makes travel carefree. She said to-day that she gave this opinion advisedly after repeated visits to many European countries. “Often agencies in Italy and Germany merely run their fingers over a map,” she said, “and to all intents and purposes there is very little they can tell you. But your Government Tourist Department arranges everything, and its representatives are intelligent.” She said well-to-do English people were travelling much further than they did before the war when they paid yearly visits to Cannes, Nice or Germany, Austrian and Italian towns and watering places. Now they went further afield, and showed a much more intelligent interest in the Dominions. The disparity between the meat and butter served in New Zealand hotels and sold at shops and that sent to London, was remarked upon. In practically every case the food served in New Zealand hotels was very well cooked, but the meat was tough and generally of inferior quality to that sent to London. The butter also was definitely not so good as that which English people had come to' expect.
