Electricity Consumers. The total number of electricity consumers in the Borough is 4250, 11 new consumers having been connected up during February. Rainfall in Timaru. A total of 2.30 inches of rain fell in Timaru during February, spread over 10 days. The sunshine for the month was 157.7 hours. Omnibus Receipts. Receipts from the Timaru omnibus service for February totalled £766/4/B h, as against £643/9/5* in the corresponding month last year. The number of passengers carried to the quickstep contest at the showgrounds was 946, the cash .fares amounting to £lB/13/3. Rural Mortgagors Bill An outline of the Rural Mortgagors and Tenants Final Adjustment Bill will be placed before a caucus of the Coalition Party to-day. The Bill is a further instalment of the Government’s rehabilition proposals and will most likely be introduced in the House this afternoon. Aid for Aviators An assurance that the Government would go-operate in providing a special meteorological service for aviation services as soon as the need arose was given by the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes yesterday. He remarked that the matter was one of considerable importance. Big Agenda. For the annual conference of the Municipal Association of New Zealand, which is to be held in Christchurch on March 21. there are 71 remits on the agenda. Municipal Association. It was unanimously decided by the Timaru Borough Council last night to c .tend an invitation to the Municipal Association of New Zealand to hold the next conference in Timaru. This year’s conference is to be held in Christchurch shortly, and the Mayor (Mr T. W. Satterthwaite) and the DeputyMayor (Cr. G. Benstead) were last night appointed to represent the Council. Band Concert. The Salvation Army Band under the conductorship of Bandmaster G. W. Hawkey gave an enjoyable programme at the hospital on Sunday. The following was the programme: Marches, “Rally,” “Keeping Step,” “Rushden Citadel”; selection, “American Melodies”; cornet solo, “Mighty to Keep”; hymn tunes, “Rockdale.” “St. Christopher,” “Hurstley,” “Whithern,” “Ellers” and “Abide With Me.” A Sign of Prosperity Business in such a definitely luxury commodity as diamonds may fairly be accepted as an accurate indication of the general prosperity of a community. It is satisfactory to learn, therefore, that the representatives of one of the great firms of diamond merchants, who are concluding a six weeks’ tour throughout the Dominion, are able to record largely increased business. As compared with a similar tour they made last year, their records show an increase of 75 per cent.

Wellington’s Centenary A willingness to collaborate with Auckland in order to save overlapping and expense in regard to the Wellington and Auckland centenaries in 1940 was expressed yesterday by the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop). “Personally I will be very glad indeed to collaborate with Auckland so as to avoid overlapping or unnecessary expenditure and so as to ensure that the celebrations will be suitable to both cities and worthy of the occasion, which is not only the centenary of Wellington and Auckland but of New Zealand.
