SHARK MENACE
ANOTHER SYDNEY VICTIM GALLANT RESCUE EFFORTS United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 10, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 10. Bathing at Maroubra beach this afternoon, a young man named Ernest McDonald (27), a machinist on “The Sun” newspaper office, was attacked by a 10ft shark, and died shortly after being rescued. The monster pursued the victim into 3ft of water, and ripped his thighs and legs in an appalling manner. McDonald leaves a widow and baby. A youth named William Wright displayed glreat heroism in rescuing McDonald, whose agonised cry attracted his attention. While Wright was dragging the victim ashore, the shark repeatedly attacked him, and on one occasion its teeth were within inches of Wright’s hand. Aparently it was ravenously hungry.
