FAULTY COMPASS
HOW LADY YOUNG FLEW OFF HER COURSE United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright CAPE TOWN, March 8. Lady Young, who was lost for some days when forced down in the wilds, has reached civilisation. She attributes the misdirection of her flight to a faulty compass. Her petrol ran short and she decided to land in an open space, which proved to be a Kaffir cornfield, which clogged the undercarriage and the plane overturned. The natives supplied food when asked for it by Dr Kirby, Lady Young’s companion, who knew the native language. Lady Young was carried 90 miles through dense bush by the naitves, whilst Dr Kirby walked.
Lady Young has rejoined her husband at Lusaka. When the machine overturned she and Dr Kirby were both temporarily stunned. Later they struggled through dense jungle and lion and mosquitoinfested country until they reached a locust ranger’s camp in an exhausted condition.
They are now little the worse for their adventure.
