A violent brawl occurred last night at Waterloo suburb in which six men and one woman were injured. Sidney Laws, aged 52, had his skull fractured. A free fight occurred outside a hotel and attracted a crowd of 500 people. The police arrested two men and were obliged to take refuge with their prisoners in the local stadium, locking the door behind them. Police reinforcements arrived and found men struggling on the ground, the onlookers kicking them unmercifully. The police in their own interests drew their batons and soon dispersed the shrieking and hooting mob. The police conveyed the injured to hospital.
