ART IN INDUSTRY
PRINCE OF WALES OPENS EXHIBITION British Official Wireless (Received January 6. 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, January 4. The Prince of Wales, in opening the winter exhibition of the Royal Academy, explained that its object was to prove that the British manufacturer, in co-operation with British artists and designers, could produce in all branches of industry articles which combined artistic form and utility with sound workmanship. With the fierce competition in the world to-day, every means of producing better and more attractive things must be explored, and he thought the exhibits shown would convey some idea of what can be produced by manufacturers to-day in the way of attractive and frequently inexpensive articles, with which more fully to enjoy their daily life. He urged the public to show genuine interest in improvements in design combining utility with attractiveness of industrial products to make it worth while for the increasing production of such articles.
