WOMEN’S DIVISION

ORARI BRIDGE BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Orari Bridge Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the hall. Mrs F. E. South presiding. After the business of the meeting had been dealt with the children of the district were entertained at a Christmas party. Mrs South introduced Dr Mail, of Geraldine, who gave a most interesting and instructive talk on Samoa. To illustrate the address pictures of Apia and Samoan villages were passed round, while the kava bowl and mats awakened much interest. A vote of thanks was accorded Dr Mail. Afternoon tea was then served, after which the children enjoyed a treasure hunt, each child receiving as its gift a bag of fruit, lollies and nuts. At the conclusion of the meeting, Allan Ford, on behalf of the children, thanked Mrs South and the members of the Division for the enjoyable afternoon they had been given and called upon Ngaire Scott to present the president with a bouquet. The competitions for the month, w’hich were judged by Mrs J. Scott, Geraldine, resulted—Best bloom, Mrs Quigley 1, Mrs Reid 2, Miss Pratt 3; best Christmas gift from one yard of material, Miss Greenaway 1. Mrs Burke 2, Mrs South 3; loaf of nut bread, Mrs Ford 1, Mrs South 2. Competition for junior members—Meringues—Miss M. Pratt 1, Miss Joyce Ford
