GIRL GUIDES

On Saturday evening the Kai Arahi Girl Guides brought the year to a close at an enjoyable break-up party at which they entertained their mothers and friends. The hall was prettily decorated with greenery, flowers, balloons and Chinese lanterns. The guest of the evening was Patrol Leader Marie Stephens, who will leave to-morrow for Melbourne, where she will represent South Canterbury at the World Jamboree of Scouts and Guides. During the evening games were played and at dusk an indoor camp-fire ceremony was arranged. Items were given by Queenie Smith, Uta Lund. Dorothy Murphy, Mabel Lund, and Fairy pennon. A play was acted by the Holly Patrol and songs were sung by the company. At the conclusion of the camp-fire it was announced that Marie Stephens had recently won the all-round cords. Other proficiency badges gained were: Sick nurse, domestic service, child nurse, and first class. The child nurse badge examination was also passed by Mabel Lund, Dorothy Nicol and Uta Lund.

In presenting the cords to Marie Stephens, the Captain, Miss N. Cook, congratulated her on gaining this distinction and on behalf of the company wished her a very happy and interesting holiday. Supper was then handed round and an enjoyable evening brought to a close with the singing of “Taps.”
