EARTH TREMOR IN AUSTRALIA
PROBABLY WORST EXPERIENCED REPORTS OF MUCH MINOR DAMAGE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 19, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. November 19. An earthquake shock, probably the worst experienced in Australia, was felt in a number of towns in the south-west portion of New South Wales at 8 o’clock this morning, causing minor damage. The towns affected were Canberra, Gunning, Yass, Parkes and Borgan Gate. Tremors were also reported in the Metropolitan area. The seismograph needle at Riverview Observatory registered a swing of two inches. REPORTS OF MINOR DAMAGE FAMILIES AFRAID TO RETURN TO HOMES United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 19, 10.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 19. Reports are arriving from various southern towns regarding the earth tremor this morning. One house two miles outside Gunning was so severely damaged that it has become uninhabitable. Many local residents and business people report cracked walls and broken crockery and furniture. Some families are afraid to return to their homes owing to the damage to walls ,and roofs.
