PRODUCE MARKETS
SOUTH CANTERBURY An unusually quiet time is being experienced in the South Canterbury grain, seed and produce markets, there being an absence of demand for most lines. Owing to the wet season many farmers have been unable to sow Hunters wheat, and millers are now keen to secure any lines of Hunters that are available. Fowl wheat is in fair demand at 3/3 a bushel on trucks. A Garton oats are worth 1/11 a bushel on trucks and B’s 1/8. Algerians are quoted at 1 8, and Duns at 2/-. There is little inquiry for any of these lines. Chaff is quoted at £2 10s a ton on trucks. Very little business is passing in seeds as weather conditions during the season have been unsuitable for sowing while ample feed has been available. Prices are inclined to weaken owing to the absence of local and shipping demand.
