BENEFIT MATCH

BADCOCK INCLUDED IN THE REST

Showing a desire to have all the the available Australian Eleven players taking part in the Woodfull-Pons-ford testimonial cricket match, commencing in Melbourne on November 16, the Victorian selectors have included all except Bradman ,who is convalescing in London) and Bromley. The Australian team is: Woodfull, Ponsford, McCabe, Kippax, Darling, Chipperfield, Brown, Oldfield, Wall, O’Reilly, and Grimmet. “The Rest” team is: Richardson (S.A.), capt., Fingleton (N.S.W.), O’Brien (Vic.), Scaife (Vic), Badcock (S.A.), Hill (N.S.W.), McCormick (Vic), Barnett (Vic), Ebeling (Vic), Fleet-wood-Smith (Vic.), and Nagel (Vic). Rigg (Vic), will act as 12th man for both sides. “The Rest” team includes Barnett as wicket-keeper, Fleetwood-Smith as slow bowler, and Ebeling as medium bowler, who were members of the Australian team which just toured England. Vic. Richardson, the South Australian captain, will skipper “The Rest” team, and will have his fellowState player, C. Badcock, to help him in rurygetting. Very keen interest centres on Badcock; he has last year earned the title of "Tasmanian Bradman.” He made a dogged century in Adelaide club cricket on Saturday, and is in tip top form. Seven Victorians Jack Fingleton and Clem Hill are the only two New South Wales members of “The Rest” team, which includes seven

Victorians. Fingleton is just getting into good form, with the bat, and should further enhance his reputation as an opening batsman. A prospective member of the Australian team to tour South Africa, Hill, will be carefully watched. It is a pity that the Victorian selectors did not include H. C. Chilvers, the Northern District and N.S. Wales slow bowler in “The Rest” team, for he is the logical successor to C. V. Grimmett. The Testimonial should be a success for Woodfull and Ponsford with so many of Australia’s best players engaged in the match. Certainly both “Woody” and "Ponnie" merit an outsize in benefits, and Australians will not lag behind in showing their approval of them.
