Mr A. L. Gray (Wellington) Is a guest at the Dominion. Messrs C. Rhodes (Christchurch) and W. Crawford (Dunedin) are registered at the Empire. Dr C. A. Paterson, who recently underwent a serious operation in Dunedin, is making a splendid recovery. Mr T. John, of Gisborne, has been appointed to succeed Mr F. K. Tucker as officer-in-charge of the Valuation Department, Invercargill. Constable D. S. Moody of Kurow has received notification of his transfer to Balclutha. He will be replaced by Constable A. W. J. Watkins of Balclutha. Recent arrivals at the Grosvenor include: Messrs T. E. Y. Seddon, W. M. Macdonald. K. C. Campbell (Wellington), C. W. Adamson, D. C. Reilly (Dunedin), T. E. Henshelwood (Invercargill) . A cable message from Sydney announces that Mr Andrew William Sneddon had been appointed general manager of the Australian Mutual Provident Society in succession to Mr A. C. Hollinworth who has retired. The resignation of Mr A. E. Smith from the position of honorary dentist at the Southland Hospital, a position which he has held for 33 years, was received at the monthly meeting of the Southland Hospital Board on Thursday. It was decided to write thanking Mr Smith for his past services. Members of the Legislative Council and the House of Representatives met in the lounge at Parliament House for the purpose of saying farewell to Mr W. Dunningham, manager of Bellamy’s, who is retiring at the end of this year. On behalf of members, the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) presented Mr Dunningham with a silver tea service. The Hon. J. A. J. Hunter, Assistant Postmaster General of the Australian Commonwealth in the newly-formed Coalition Cabinet, is a younger brother of Professor S. F. Hunter, of Knox College, Dunedin. He has since 1920 represented Maronoa, a pastoral constituency of 250.000 square miles in the south-west corner of Queensland, and for most of that time was secretary and whip of the Federal Country Party.
