MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB The local Miniature Rifle Club closed its season with a most successful dance on Thursday evening. Visitors were present from as far as Temuka and Waimate. A Waimate orchestra supplied the music and extras were played by Misses M. Coote and M. Macphail. Mr L. Howard was M.C. Mr H. Hoskins apologised for the absence of Mr R. Munro and on his behalf presented the trophies won during the year. RESIDENTS FAREWELLED A farewell social was tendered Mr and Mrs J. Baird, two most popular residents of the township during the week. A programme of songs, music, community singing and dancing helped jto pass a very pleasant evening. During the supper interval, Messrs H Hoskins (Football Club), R. g. A. Munro (footballers), E. Longman (residents) and P. Coote (C.F.M.C.) expressed regret at the departure of Mr and Mrs Baird from the district. When accepting a handsome oak clock Mr nad Mrs Baird were musically honoured. Mr Baird replied on behalf of Mrs Baird and himself. Mr Baird was also entertained by the Football and Burns Club at a smoke concert. PERSONAL Visitors to Christchurch for Carnival Week are Mr and Mrs F. Richards and Miss Joan Pratt. Miss J. Lemon who was the guest of Mrs P. Coote has returned to Ashburton. Miss A. Barr who was the guest of Mrs R. Lange, Christchurch has returned to Pareora. A party of little friends organised by MissD. Bennett paid a surprise visit to the home of Miss M. Munro. Each little visitor presented the bride-elect with a useful article for her future home.
