BOARDING ALLOWANCE

A REQUEST DECLINED By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, November 1. In the House to-day, Mr K. J. Holyoake (C., Motueka) asked if the boarding allowance reinstated to primary school children could be extended to cover post-primary school children. The Hon. G. W. Forbes, in reply, said it was regretted that in view of the large amount involved the request for the payment of boarding allowances for children attending secondary and technical schools could not be granted. The concessions had never been granted to pupils attending those schools. It was estimated that it would cost at least £IB,OOO a year to grant the extension asked for.
