TIMARU RADIO CLUB
i FORTNIGHTLY MEETING At a meeting of the Timaru Radio Club on Wednesday, Mr V. H. Keay presided. Motions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of Mr E. Firkin and Mr H. McLachlan. On behalf of the Hospital Committee Mr Thomas. reported that a sot had been installed in the Nurses’ Home and that approximately 300 feet of overhead wiring erected. Parts of Nos. 5 and 6 wards that had not been previously fitted with ’phone plugs had been equipped with same. Plugs that had been fitted-in 18 months ago had proved very satisfactory, and are standing up to the knocking about due to the shifting of beds, etc. It was a month since the set had been first shifted to the Home, and it appeared that, for the first time, all patients were completely satisfied at the service given. The report was received and Mr Thomas thanked.
It was agreed that the Club assist, other than financjally, the matron to obtain a set for the surgeons’ quarters. It was decided that 15 pairs of headphones be purchased for the hospital.
Mr Hassall moved, Mr Adams seconded, and it was carried: “That the Postmaster-General be written to thanking him for his reply to the Club’s representations regarding the Gazetting of the Regulations governing interference and to inquire as to when instructions will be issued to those in authority to carry out the said Regulations.” For the next hour an impromptu debate was held on “Has the Radio Club lost its Usefulness?” The negative side won the debate on points.
