Two young girls had a thrilling, if not rather a terrifying experience on Saturday afternoon. They were doublebanking on a fixed wheel cycle, without a brake, and after they had turned from Wai-iti Road into Park Lane, the machine gathered speed and the active cyclist lost control of the pedals. With the strong southerly wind behind them, they took the dip at a terrific speed and a hurried intention to turn into a private drive was formed only as the cycle shot past and broadsided round the corner, successfully negotiated the next turn and sped across Quarry Road to crash into the fence. During the unpremediated speed burst, hats and shoes were scattered along the route. One girl came into contact with a post, and it was found necessary to have . four stitches inserted over her eye. She also suffered severe bruises and abrasions as did her companion, who was cut about the arms and knees.
