COUNCIL’S MONTHLY MEETING
SEEPAGE AT FAIRVIEW The monthly meeting of the Levels County Council was held yesterday. Present—Messrs T. B. Garrick (chairman), C. E. Kerr. R. G. Cleland, T. W. Brosnahan. J. E. P. Cameron and D. Grant. Chairman’s Statement. Reviewing the financial position, the chairman said that the debit balance at October 3 was £2886 9 4. During the month £1224 T/3 was expended, making the debit £4llO/10/1 Cash received during the month amounted to £1562 18 6, and accounts to be passed that day totalled £742/6/4. leaving a debit that day of £3289/18/5. The chairman said that the position was a good deal better than at the corresponding period of last year. Grants. The Timaru Technical High School made application for a grant towards the cost of the work of the school.—lt was decided to grant £5. Application was also made for financial assistance by the Pleasant Point sub-branch of the Plunket Society.— A donation of £5 was made. A grant of £2/2/- was made to the Temuka Technical School. Kingsdown School Reserve. The Canterbury Education Board wrote asking the Council if it could see its way clear to carry out the drainage of the low-lying portion of the Kingsdown School reserve. The request was agreed to. Fairview Water Supply. Mr V. H. Panton wrote stating that he had received a letter from the Timaru Borough engineer in regard to the Fairview' water supply scheme, stating that he considered the slight seepage as practically of no consequence, and it w r as agreed that its cause or origin could only he fixed when the ground was dry after a considerable spell of dry weather. Even during short dry spells, the seepage almost disappeared, and he was of the opinion that the seepage was caused probably by surface water.
