GRANDMOTHER AT 31
WOMAN CLAIMS RECORD Considerable interest was aroused by a recent story in the News of the World about one of its readers who became a grandmother at the age of 34 years and eight months. Many readers have written since to point out that this is not a record, and so several even younger grandmothers have been discovered. The record at present seems to belong to Mrs Emily Wall of Westbourne Park, Paddington, London. “I was married when 14 years old and gave birth to my first daughter at the age of 14 years and nine months,’ writes Mrs Wall. “I was a grandmother at the age of 31. I am grandmother of 40 children and great-great-grand-mother of four.” Mrs Cook, of Tilbury Docks, Essex, became last year a grandmother at the age of 33 years and one month. Among other readers who have written, and the ages at which they became grandmothers are: Mrs R. E. Whines, of London, 33years 10 months; Mrs R. Cockling, of Glasgow, 33 years 11 months; Mrs R. Miller, cf Dagenham, 34 years; and Mrs M. Thompson, of New Basford, Nottingham, 34 years eight months.
