SAFER ROADS
DRASTIC RESTRICTION IN BRITAIN Br'tish Official Wireless (Received October 30, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, October 29. The new regulations, relating to pedestrian crossings, which were recently constituted in streets and roads in London and many other parts of the country, come into operation tomorrow. They do not compel pedestrians to cross a road at places officially indicated, but express the hope that the crossings will be used where traffic is controlled by the police or light signals. The regulations give the pedestrian absolute right of way only when the traffic has been definitely stopped. At uncontrolled crossings, the pedestrian has the right of way at all times, and traffic must give way to him. He is obliged, however, to cause $s little hindrance as possible to other traffic.
