INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODDFELLOWS DEGREE MEETING N.G, Bro. R. Tagg presided over a good attendance at the fortnightly meeting of Victoria Lodge, No. 18, 1.0.0. P. Two brethren from Alexandrovna Lodge, Temuka, were welcomed by the Noble Grand. It was reported that six brethren were on the sick list. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £34/6/8 were passed for payment. One candidate for membership was ballotted for. A degree meeting followed, Bro. Evans acting as degree-master, four brethren taking their degrees. After Lodge closed, the usual social hour was spent, Bro. E. McCabe being accorded a vote of thanks for his generosity in providing the supper. PERSONAL Mr S. Parr, of the South Canterbury Electric Power Board, is spending his annual leave at Waimate. Mr F. O’Connor (Timaru) is relieving at Geraldine. Recent guests at the Crown Hotel include: —Misses L. Stewart (Christchurch), and Crawford and O’Neill (Fairlie), Messrs P. C. Symington (Norfolk Island), H. Hanna, T. D. Wilson (Christchurch), C. W. Robertson (Wellington), W. P. Matthews, B. H. Crawford, and P. C. McKenzie (Dunedin). DULL CONDITIONS CONTINUE Light rain fell for a short period yesterday morning, conditions remaining dull and overcast for the remainder of the day. “FRIDAY, THE 13TF” “Friday, the 13th,” an English comedy success, presented by Gainsborough British Pictures, will be screened at the Municipal Theatre to-night. “Friday, the 13th” takes a number of characters travelling in a ’bus on Friday night on the thirteenth of the month, involves them in an accident, and then, putting back the hands of the clock, proceeds to delve into their histories, leaving it to the beholder to decide whether this coincidence of unlucky day with unlucky date was really unlucky for them after all. Jessie Matthews and Sonnie Hale play the i parts of “Millie,” the non-stop variety girl, and “Alf,” the ’bus conductor, respectively. There will be variety supporting features. A garden party in. aid of the Geraldine Methodist Church funds will be | held in the Domain to-morrow.
