ANGLERS MEET

SOUTH CANTERBURY CLUB A SUCCESSFUL YEAR About 20 anglers attended the first annual meeting of the South Canterbury Anglers’ Club which was held last night, Mr F. M. Ward .presiding. The treasurer (Mr F. T. Wilkin) reported that the Club had come through the year with a credit balance of £7 Is 9d. The annual report (previously published) was adopted on the motion of Mr T. O. Fox, who expressed the opinion that the year had been a most satisfactory one. The chairman said the Club was in a very satisfactory position, having started with 30 members and having a membership at present of 100. He thought that, as there were 800 liceifse holders in the district, the membership should be at least doubled. The subscription was 2/6, but he thought that if it were raised to 5/- the amount would not be too much. It was hoped to arrange more competitions this season, and he understood that it would be possible to have the casting competition on the pond in Timaru Park. The season had been bad for fishing, the rivers having been in poor condition generally. Members had not taken much interest in the Research Committee’s request for scales, only 70 having been sent in. This season it was to be hoped more would be forwarded, for the scales were necessary for the Research Committee to obtain information from. Mr C. H. Coxhead said that in Oamaru last year 500 samples of scales were sent in and he would like to see the total go up to that figure in South Canterbury. If each fisherman sent in 10 samples, a fund of information would be obtained without a great deal of trouble to members. Election of Officers. The following officers were elected: Patrons, Messrs C. R. Orr Walker, A. Hope, C. E. Hassell; president, Mr T. O. Fox; vice-president, Mr J. Davey; hon. secretary, Mr F. M. Ward; hon. treasurer, Mr F. T. Wilkin; auditor, Mr F. J. Cook; committee, Messrs J. H. Don. D. Sinclair, G. Hadlee, B. Triggs, W. Stevens, E. D. Mcßae, H. Davison, W. Kidd.
