NEGRO LYNCHED
GRIM FATE OF COLOURED LAW BREAKER United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received October 28, 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 27. A message from Mariana (Florida) states that the mutilated and bulletpierced body of Claude Neal, a negro, charged with attacking and murdering a white girl. Lola Kennedy, a farmer’s daughter, was brought there to-day by a mob of men and hanged from a tree, in front of the court hourse, where a throng of 2000 men, women and children were awaiting the arrival of the prisoner’s body last night. The authorities said that apparently Neal was lynched last night by a mob, which removed him from a gaol in the neighbouring State of Alabama on Thursday night, and kept him secreted from the authorities, who did not seem to object to his removal. A group of six men. who called themselves the “lynch committee.’* announced last night that the negro would be “executed” in a nearby swamp, and they promised to bring the body to Marianna for exhibition, as a result of which a crowd gathered with rocks and clubs intent to strike even the lifeless creature. First, however, the lynchers carried the corpse to the home of the victim, to give the girl’s father an opportunity to view it.
