THE WEATHER
Dominion Meteorologist. General situation.—A slight anticyclone is crossing the Dominion, but a fresh depression is approaching from the Tasman Sea. Winds.—Freshening northerly, becoming strong about and south of Cook Strait, backing to southerly within the next 24 to 36 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters).—Rough south of Cape Egmont and rising in Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Moderate to strong northerly winds backing to westerly and later to southerly, seas r'ther rough. Weather.—Becoming unsettled again soon in districts with a westerly aspect, with rain setting in especially from Taranaki southwards, mainly fair to fine in eastern districts, but some showers later accompanying a southerly change. Conditions in Tirnaru. Ideal summer weather -was experienced in Tirnaru on Saturday morning and all followers of sport were optimistic. At 2 o’clock, however, storm clouds gathered in the south and a keen southerly wind made its appearance. The promised rain held off until 6 o’clock and then a heavy shower was experienced. The rain continued throughout the night and at Tirnaru Park yesterday morning 22 points had been registered. The sun shone brightly throughout yesterday but a keen easterly wind made its presence felt.
