RIFLE SHOOTING
TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB On Saturday afternoon the Timaru Defence Rifle Club fired the second match of the season, the conditions being seven shots at 500, 600 and 800 yards. At 500 the light was very bad, and the shooting was not up to the
mark, 31 being the top score. At 600 yards the light was slightly better, but the wind came up from the south-west and blew stronger as the afternoon advanced. At this range W. E. Jones and C. K. Paine each scored 32. At 800 yards the wind was very strong, there being from 11 to 14 degrees right wind. H. A. Currie and B. J. Jefferson each scored 32. The day’s match was won by W. G. Heslop with 97, T. Currie being second with 95, and B. Jefferson third with 94. The gold rifle was won by W. G. Heslop, a first year shot, with 91 off the rifle. Scores:—
