CRAIGHEAD DIOCESAN SCHOOL
JUNIOR RECORD BROKEN
The annual athletic sports of the Craighead Diocesan School were held yesterday afternoon. The sports were to have been held last week, but had to be postponed on account of bad weather. Yesterday, however, conditions were ideal, and the events were got off in good time. The flat races were held on West End Park, and the jumping events at the school. In every instance competition was keen, and close finishes were the order of the afternoon.
The officials who controlled the sports were: Judges: Messrs R. L. Orbell, C. L. Orbell, C. G. Bryan King, G. A. Bridges. T. R. Rhodes, W. T. Ritchie, Dr W. R. Fea and Miss Nicholls; starters, Mr W. H. Orbell and Miss Donnelly; scorers, Miss Seward and Miss Gregory; committee, Misses Clifton-Mogg, M. Orbell. J. Fitch, P. May, B. Armstrong, N. Thompson, Jill Lethbridge and A. Menzies. The senior championship was won by A. Orbell with 24 points, M. Orbell being runner-up with 14 points. R. Kain won the junior championship with 18 ponts, B. Shirtcliff being run-ner-up with 17 points. In the junior long jump championship, B. Shirtcliff broke the school record by jumping 14ft Uin. The House points were: Te Hauauru 126, Te Rawhiti 112, Te Raki 105 and Tonga 80. Games badges were presented as follows for the past season.— Basketball, J. Finch and A. Rowley. Hockey, J. Fitch and A. Orbell. At the conclusion of the sports the cups were presented by Mrs W. T. Ritchie. Following are the results.— Senior Championship. 100 Yards (Mr and Mrs E. H. Courage’s Cup)—A.
