FARMERS’ GARAGE DISPLAY

EXCELLENT EXHIBITION OF CARS AND MACHINERY Undoubtedly this is one of the finest working demonstrations placed before the public. The cylinder reboring machine, valve refacer, etc., attracted considerable attention the whole day, and many favourable comments were heard on all sides as to the high standard of finish and accuracy of the finished rebored blocks, pistons, faced valves and reconditioned connecting rod bearings, etc. This display clearly showed that the public need not go out of the district for its general needs in these matters, also the saving of freight and loss of time must be of great consideration, and above all, assists in ploying local labour. Interest was also taken in the display of the Vesta Batteries, the only batteries on sale with the isolator locking device that prevents buckling plates. Low Pressure Tyres. Then there is the Michelin Zig-Zag real low tyre demonstration. The outstanding success of the real low pressure tyres warrants that the motoring public inspect these tyres as they give greater comfort, better braking and more non-skid miles. These tyres are of extraordinary flexibility due to an entirely new process of manufacture, having the zig-zag tread which is practically non-skid to the end. The Finest Cars. From the tyres you go to the cars, where the Nash production for 1934

is shown. This year Nash’s has done the unexpected by building twin ignition valve and head motors into their complete line. This not only provides greater smoothness of operation, but 20 per cent, more power, five miles per hour more top speed, two extra miles per gallon more than a motor of equal size with only single ignition. Then there is the Layfayette, Nash built, entirely new in low priced oars, with costly big car features; seven bearing crankshaft complete, force-feed lubrication of engine, with rifle-bored connecting rods and metered pressure cooling of engine. England’s finest light car, the Wolseley Hornet, With its centricast hardened cylinder liners, was indeed a centre of attraction. Some of the many exclusive features are automatic starting, 4-speed gear box, hydraulic brakes and shock-absorbers, shockproof steering and soft leather pneumatic upholstery. The Wolseley of to-day is considered the most completely equipped car coming from England.

Timaru has at present the opportunity of seeing the latest stream-lined car in the Willys 77, which is on exhibition at the Farmers’ display at the show.
