CHILDREN’S SEWING
HIGH STANDARD SET Entries in the primary and secondary schools’ sewing classes were well up to the numbers of previous years. The standard was particularly high, and the judge, Miss J. Fyfe. Timaru, was particularly pleased with all the work. Some of the work in the secondary department she described as wonderful, especially in the class for cotton frock. Miss Fyfe said that she had found it particularly difficult to find any flaws, and in order to separate the competitors she had had to take into account the difficulty of the work. In the class for baby’s garment some outstanding exhibits had come forward. The secondary school knitting had also been well worth seeing.
Miss Fyfe said that she had also been very much impressed with the work of the primary school children. The stuffed animals had been outstanding, and the same could be said of the class for articles made from a sugar bag. Some novel and useful goods had been displayed, and the workmanship had been of the very best. The raffia class had been productive of some beautiful work, and really the children were to be complimented on the high standard attained.
