SWIMMING
WEST END CLUB The first meeting of the West End swimming club was held on Tuesday, Mr Elder presiding over a full attendance of members. Mr Dennison brought to the notice of the meeting that a vote of thanks to the local newspapers had been omitted from the report of the annual general meeting, and it was agreed to rectify the omission.
An honorarium of £ll- was passed to the hon. secretary for past services.
Miss V. Campbell’s offer to coach members of the club was accepted, provided satisfactory arrangements can be made with the club and deputy captains. After discussion it was agreed that the official opening of the club be held at the baths on October 27.
Mrs J. Gillon was re-appointed convener of the ladies committee. It was resolved that the club make application to the Borough Council to have the use of the West End baths on Tuesday evenings from 7 o’clock. The secretary was instructed to post notices at the baths giving closingdates of entries for cup races. It was resolved to swim the races earlier than last season if at all possible. Mr Dennison’s offer to provide a trophy for aggregate points obtained by the junior section was accepted with thanks. A proposal to have aggregate races at each weekly swim was received with enthusiasm, and tentative arrangements were made. The following officials were appointed.—Assistant handicapper. Mr G. Collins: starter. Mr D. Stewart: assistant starter. Mr R. Barker; timekeepers. Messrs L. W. MacGregor and L. Hunt: diving judges. Messrs D. Elder, D. Stewart. E. Ramsay and J. T.
