WANGANUI WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT MISS KAY’S GOOD PLAY By Telegraph—Press Association WANGANUI. October 17. The Wanganui women’s provincial golf championship tournament commenced to-day in fine weather, but occasional showers fell. Miss Oliver Kay headed the qualifying list 17 strokes ahead of the field. The draw for the first round of the championship is:—Miss Kay plays Miss Duncan: Miss Grace plays Mrs Brown; Mrs Cook plays Mrs Broderick; Mrs Wilson plays Mrs Richardson; Miss Gaisford plays Mrs Handley; Mrs Waddell plays Mrs Goldsbury; Mrs Grace plays Miss Blyth; Miss Currie plays Mrs Gilbert. The semi-finals of the Australian amateur and professional golf championships were played in a brisk southerly wind to-day. Apperly revealed all his old time form to defeat Hattersley. while in the other amateur match McKay was too steady for his opponent. Showing better ability to cope with the windy conditions. Kelly defeated the professional title-holder, and Bolger putted soundly to defeat Petterson. Results:—

Amateur Championship. Apperly beat Hattersley, 3 up and 2 to play. McKay beat Hughes. 4 and 3.

Professional Championship. Kelly beat Richardson, one up. beat Petterson. 4 and 2.
