THE SCOUT TROOP ANNUAL MEETING The chairman (Rev. A. C. Lawry) presided at the annual meeting of the Geraldine Boy Scout Troop, held in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. The chairman expressed his thanks to the committee for the help it had given him during the year, and Canon J. F. Coursey and the vestrv of St. Mary’s for the use of the hall for the Troop meetings; Mr J. D. McKechnie for the use of the Bank of New Zealand premises for committee meetings; the deputy-chairman (Mr F. H. P. Wallach) and the “The Timaru Herald.” He referred to the loss the committee had suffered in the resignatiori of Dr P. W. Hislop. The annual report (previously published) was adopted. The Scoutmaster (Mr G. Thorp) presented his report on the activities of the Troop during the year. In presenting her annual report, the Wolf Cub Mistress (Miss L. Hawke) stated that the strength was at present 18, with three on the waiting list. Eighteen badges had been earned during the year. In December the resignation of Miss Kathleen Kerr, Assistant Cub Mistress, had been received with regret. Miss Joan Lapthorn had joined the Pack in February on probation as Assistant Cub Mistress, but, after six months’ service, she had been obliged to resign as she had accepted a position. The birthday of the founders, Lord and Lady Baden Powell, had been suitably commemorated, and 19 Cubs had paraded on Anzac Day. Twenty Cubs went to Timaru, and were entertained at the Highfield “den.” Thanks were due to Scoutmaster E. Manthorpe and Patrol Leader B. Morrison for an enjoyable day. The Pack had spent every Saturday morning in scouting activities, and had often gone hiking for the whole day. The Cub Mistress and Pack wished to thank the following for assistance during the year:—Rev. A. C. Lawry, Captain A. W. McArthur and Miss K. Kerr for providing cars for the annual picnic; Captain McArthur and Mr J. D. McKechnie for contributions towards the ’bus fare to Timaru; Mr M. Malcolm for accompanying the Pack, Mrs J. M. H. Tripp for trophies; Scoutmaster G. Thorp for eight neckerchiefs; and the examiners Canon Coursey (athlete), Dr G. W. Curtis (first aid), Mr A. M. Fyfe (wood-worker), Mr D. C. Williamson (team player), Mrs C. A. Crowe (artist), Mrs J. Mcllroy (house orderly). Mr A. W. Tucker had kindly given a talk to the Cubs on Scouting. Scoutmaster Thorp intimated that *t was his intention to resign owing to the pressure of other duties.
The chairman thanked the Scoutmaster and Wolf Cub Mistress for the good work they had done for the troop and the Cub Pack, and said he hoped that the Scoutmaster would reconsider his resignation. Wolf Cub J. Bennett was presented with a team player’s badge, and Cubs J. Bennett and Gray burn with service stars.

At the conclusion of the business the Scouts staged an item, which was very much appreciated
TENNIS CLUB A meeting of the committee of the . Geraldine Tennis Club was held on Friday evening Mr G. Glen presiding. Present: Mesdames H. F. Bennett, A. SL. Brenton, E. P. Bennett, Miss G. * Woolhouse and Messrs K. Woolhouse and A. W. Jones (secretary). Correspondence was received from ;Miss M. S. Kennedy who resigned her position as treasurer. On the motion of Messrs Glen and Jones, Mr D. Williams was elected treasurer. Three new members were elected. The secretary was instructed to . write to the Temuka Town and Country Association, stating that -affiliation would be renewed providing satisfactory arrangements were made Regarding matches.
