GOLF CLUB CLOSING DAY Golfers of the Temuka district brought their season to a close -on Saturday with a mixed foursome competition. The best cards handed in
After the competition had concluded and afternoon tea, the gift of the lady members, had been served, the president (Mr C. L. Fraser) said it was with regret that they came to the close of another season. It had been decided to close the season because of the long grass. The day’s competition had been most successful and the fact that the leading scored had been so close reflected great credit on the handicappers, Miss K, McShane and Mr J. T. Smart. Throughout the season the secretary (Mr W. S. Harbrow) had carried out his office most efficiently and he (the speaker) thought it would be fitting to show appreciation of the work of the ladies’ captain (Miss Mc?"icne) and secretary (Mrs D. Lauren - son). A vote of thanks was then carried by acclamation. Mr Fraser also moved a vote of thanks to the ladies for providing and serving afternoon tea. This was also carried by acclamation.
On behalf of the women players, Mrs A. S. Mclnnes said that a most enjoyable season had been spent and they wished especially to show public appreciation of the work of Miss McShane, who had so ably filled offices for the last few years. She then handed to Miss McChane a small present from fellow-players. The following trophies were then presented by Mrs J. T. Smart, wife of the club captain:— Women—Oldfield Cup (senior championship), Mrs J. Dick; challenge cup (junior championship), Miss E. McLeod; L.G.U. silver medal, Mrs Dick; L.G.U. bronze medal, Miss B. Austin; C grade button (Mr C. L. Fraser’s trophy), Miss Manson; ringer competition, gross (Mrs Mclnnes’s trophy), Miss Hanifin; ringer competition, nett (Miss McShane’s trophy), Miss C. Grant; eclectic match (Mrs Topham’s trophy), Miss Ferguson; eclectic match (Miss Manson’s trophy), Mrs Hitchcock; foursome (Miss Bremner’s trophy), Miss M. McShane and Miss E. McLeod.

After the presentations, the club captain, on behalf of members moved a hearty vote of thanks to the president. This was carried with enthusiasm.
FRIENDLY FRIDAYS. Members of the “Our Friendly Fridays Club’’ assembled in the Druid’s Hall on Friday to bid farewell to Mr H. V. O’Connor, a player in the Oddfellows’ team, who is leaving Temuka on transfer to Waimate. Mr F. Smith presided. The president said that in the transfer of Mr O’Connor, the club was losing a member who, during his four years’ association with the tourneys, had never missed a night. In presenting a pack of cards to the guest, the patron, Mr E. Blackmore, referred to the popularity of Mr O’Connor whom they wished, with his wife and family, every happiness in the new ‘ position. Responding, the recipient said that he. would always remember the happy evenings he had enjoyed at the club’s gatherings. The earlier part of the evening was occupied in a match between teams captained by the president and patron. This was won by the president’s team by 92 games to 83. MILFORD CONCERT. A concert and dance in the interests of general funds was held by the Clan-deboye-Milford R.S.A. in the Milford Public Hall on Friday evening. The concert programme was: Pianoforte solo, Mrs F. Comer; choruses, infant school children; song in character, “Alice Blue Gown,” Miss Wilson; song, Mr Woodhead; violin solo, Mrs C. T. Wild; play, "Send Her Victorious”, Orari Readers; pianoforte solo, Mrs Comer; songs, senior school children; dance extravaganza, Miss Wilson and Mr Richardson; highland dance, Miss J. Flett; “play, “Innocent and Annabel,” Orari Readers. At the conclusion of the programme Mr G. H. Mulligan, chairman of the Association, thanked the audience for its attendance and Mr C. T. Wild and Miss O. M. Dalton for training the children. He also thanked the Orari Readers and the other performers. After supper a dance was held. Mr S. Parke was M.C. A competition was won by Mr A. Ritchie. BAND OF HOPE. The Temuka Band of Hope held its fortnightly meeting in the Methodist Sunday Schoolroom on Friday evening, Miss A. Mills presiding. Thfe Rev. C. A. Kennedy gave a most interesting address. Results secured by Temuka candidates in the New Zealand Scientific Examination held in August were:— Senior Grade. —Doris Beeby 6th (41 marks), third class certificate. Intermediate Grade.—Dorothy Lloyd and Cathie Benbow 9th equal (77 marks), first class certificates; Iris Martin, 15th (58 marks) and Betty Prattley, 16th (56 marks), 2nd class certificates; Elsie Thompson, 18th (51 marks), 3rd class certificate.
