POT POURRI
Dry the rose petals thoroughly. Put alternate layers of rose leaves and rock salt (some call it bay salt) in a glass jar, the top layer should be the salt. Allow to stand a fortnight, stirring once every day with a wooden spoon, and always seeing that the top layer is of the salt. At the end of the time put all the mixture into a large bowl or jar and mix with it a Soz. powdered mace, ioz. powdered cinnamon bark, 3oz powdered cloves, loz orris root and a lib lavender flowers. When all these are well mixed replace in the former glass jar. Put in an inch of the mixture in depth first, then sprinkle over it verbena oil, and so on alternately with the mixture. When full sprinkle on top an ounce of lavender water, close the lid tightly and let it mature for a few days. Bay—or rock salt—may be bought at a good oilmonger’s or chemist’s—you cannot make it with ordinary salt.
