WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SHERWOOD DOWNS An entertainment organised by the Sherwood Downs Women's Institute was given in Mr S. P. Bray’s granary, when there was a splendid attendance of members, many friends being present from surrounding districts. Two one-act plays were presented, one by courtesy of the Fairlie Women’s Division, acted by Fairlie players. the other by members of the Kimbell and Sherwood Downs Women’s Institutes, which were well received. Songs were sung by Mr C. Reid, and glees by the Institute Glee Club. The winner of the lucky number competition for a mosaic pottery jar presented by Mrs S. Harper was Mrs N. Williams and Mr Jock Burt, won the second prize, a cake presented by Mrs S. P. Bray. Mrs Alister Mackenzie (president), expressed the feelings of those present in proposing a vote of thanks to all who had contributed to the pleasure of the evening. Dancing was then indulged in to music provided by Mr F. Smith. Fairlie. Mr G. Armitage was master of ceremonies.

Cheers for the Institute, and for Mr and Mrs S. P. Bray for the use of the granary, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant function to a close.
