In regard to a match between the ; South Canterbury third-grade repre- • sentatives and Ashburton, it was decided to write to Ashburton offering [ them a game at Geraldine on August 25, | Southland’s Offer. Replying to a letter from the Union . asking if financial assistance could be granted towards the cost of the southern tour by South Canterbury, the Southland Union wrote stating that it was prepared to make a straight-out grant of £4O. The Otago Union, replying to a similar request, regretted that it Could not see its way clear to make a grant, and suggesting that the New Zealand Union be approached for assistance. The chairman said that the Southland Union’s offer would be very welcome. Sub-Union Match. The Waimate and Mackenzie SubUnions advised that the sub-union match would be played at Waimate on August 16. Mr Aitken asked what the position was in regard to the country players who would be required for the representative game with Canterbury. Mr Connolly: A club game comes first, doesn’t it? The chairman: No. We can stop it, I take it. Mr Sullivan said that by playing the game on August 16, it left it too late for the selection of the representative team. Waimate was communicated with, and advised that It was not possible to alter the date. The South Canterbury Referees’ Association advised that it was willing to carry out an interchange of referees with Ashburton, and asked that Ashburton be advised accordingly. Application was also made for a further grant of £5 for carrying on expenses. It was agreed to make a grant of £5. Junior Representative Match. It was decided to play the junior representative match with Ashburton at Ashburton on Saturday next. Mr O’Connor (Pareora) was appointed manager of the South Canterbury team. The application of the Geraldine Club for September 29 for its annual seven-a-side tournament was granted. Pleasant Point being granted September 15. “The Timaru Herald” Cricket Club was granted the use of Fraser Park during the summer. Members commented on the fine condition in which the club handed over the Park at the conclusion of last season. Harris Cup Matches. The secretary renorted that he had advised all senior clubs that the Harris Cup competition would be on the knock-out principle, and entries had been received from all the clubs. Junior and Senior Grade Winners. It was decided to close the Junior A competition, Pareora being declared the winners. The Junior B representatives will play the third-grade representatives on August 18. Coaches have been appointed as follows:—Junior B representatives, A.
