WARREN PENNY LEAVES FOR UNITED STATES.

The young Sydney airman, Warren Penny, is aboard the Mariposa on his way to the United States, where he will buy a Vultes aeroplane for the Melbourne centenary air race, handicap section.
Penny has engaged a Dutch pilot who knows the route. He will also carry a wireless operator and a journalist. SMITHY NAMES NEW PLANE. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s Lockheed Altair monoplane was officially released from bond yesterday. Smithy has renamed the machine Lady Southern Cross. HIGH SPEED MACHINE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright (Received July 26, 11.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 26. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith tried out his Lockheed Altair ’plane to-day, and he admitted that he attained a speed of 185 miles an hour. He intends to fly to England, which he says is cheaper than sending the machine by steamer.
